5 Small Business Ideas In Brief – Part 1

Posted on 12. Apr, 2010 by Kamilla in Opportunities

Finding the right business idea can certainly be a challenge, so we have decided to publish summarised lists of viable business ideas from time to time.

These are five businesses that people we personally know are running in various African countries and they are making good money from them. None of these businesses required vast sums of money to start-up.

Company Formation Services

A company formation agent assists clients with the registration of companies and business names, the provision of registered office facilities and in some cases, full annual compliance services – such as filing any required annual returns and notifications with the local registrar of companies.

Import-Export

International trade is big business with billions of dollars worth of goods crossing borders on a daily basis. By taking advantage of the variety of trade agreements and government incentives in place across Africa that make trade in certain goods especially attractive, one can build a very lucrative business indeed. We will be publishing a full article on this business idea in the near future featuring real-life advice from owners of import-export businesses.

Web design

Web designers are always in demand and as most of the work/client communication can be done online, those based in Africa are able to attract clients from all over the world in addition to meeting local demand.

Event management

African life is vibrant. Weddings, thanksgiving parties, birthday parties and other celebrations are plentiful and quite naturally, there are many people willing to splash-out in a big way on these events. Very often, the number of invited guests run into the hundreds. This is when the hosts call upon the services of event managers/wedding planners who get involved in all aspects of the event (before, during, after) to ensure things turn out successfully. There is also great scope for the management of corporate events such as conferences, exhibitions etc.

Wedding and Celebration Cake Making

With every celebration, there is a need for that special cake. A skilled confectioner can demand high prices for their cakes and once one develops a reputation for quality, the sky’s the limit. In certain African countries, confectioners are now using the internet to seriously boost sales, making their cakes and related accessories available for ordering online.

Hope this helps you in your search for the right business idea. More ideas will be profiled soon.

Good luck.
